[mc] How to configure keyboard shortcuts

Now i copied the default keymap file from /etc/mc/mc.default.keymap (not the symlink ofc) over to ~/.config/mc/mc.keymap (with rename) and i #ed out all lines except the section headers [] to make it a cascading override file only for those keys i want to modify.

So it's essentially now just 

[panel]
PanelOtherSync = ctrl-.

but that won't work ...  I also tried ctrl-fullstop and ctrl-. but no avail. 

Is there a different way to refer to the fullstop ? 

The shortcut Alt-i remained active, so i wonder maybe its not working that way, with a users keymap override file in that place ?
