Can we configure the background color of mc ?

I have a X terminal color profile which does not work well with mc. For example, shell script comments are in a greyish-orange and hard to read on blue background.

I would like to change the mc background to black, rather than modifying dozens of highlight items. I hope that would suffice. And there are no black font colors anywhere as far as i can see.
