[mc] Arch upgrade breaks some MC associations/actions

I'm running Midnight Commander under Arch linux, using the XFCE desktop
environment. Mc is  currently version 4.8.30. A recent upgrade (I'm
reasonably sure that it was something upgraded yesterday evening) has
broken some associations in MC. They were working fine yesterday, but
when I started the laptop this morning, they failed.

As an example, pressing enter with MC highlighting a .mp4 file would
normally start Vlc. Now it does nothing at all. In the same way, MC
would normally open a .tar.gz file, or a tar.zst file, neither of those
get any response from MC. Attempting to open .docx or .odt file also
fails completely. But MC is still opening .zip files, will still load
.pdf files, will still open .png or .jpg files.

The update that I think must be responsible upgraded the following items:

alsa-card-profiles (1:0.3.78-1 -> 1:0.3.79-1)
aom (3.6.1-1 -> 3.7.0-1)
glib2 (2.76.4-1 -> 2.76.5-1)
freetype2 (2.13.1-1 -> 2.13.2-1)
openexr (3.1.11-1 -> 3.2.0-2)
gegl (0.4.46-1 -> 0.4.46-2)
libjxl (0.8.2-1 -> 0.8.2-2)
gimp (2.10.34-2 -> 2.10.34-3)
glib2-docs (2.76.4-1 -> 2.76.5-1)
gstreamer (1.22.5-1 -> 1.22.5-2)
gst-plugins-base-libs (1.22.5-1 -> 1.22.5-2)
gst-plugins-bad-libs (1.22.5-1 -> 1.22.5-2)
libpipewire (1:0.3.78-1 -> 1:0.3.79-1)
imagemagick (7.1.1.15-2 -> 7.1.1.15-3)
gst-plugins-bad (1.22.5-1 -> 1.22.5-2)
gst-plugins-base (1.22.5-1 -> 1.22.5-2)
gst-plugins-good (1.22.5-1 -> 1.22.5-2)
gst-plugins-ugly (1.22.5-1 -> 1.22.5-2)
pipewire (1:0.3.78-1 -> 1:0.3.79-1)
pipewire-audio (1:0.3.78-1 -> 1:0.3.79-1)
pipewire-alsa (1:0.3.78-1 -> 1:0.3.79-1)
pipewire-pulse (1:0.3.78-1 -> 1:0.3.79-1)
re2 (1:20230801-1 -> 1:20230901-1)

I'm not sure what to check to try and fix the problem. I'd be grateful
for any suggestions - I use MC pretty well constantly and would hate to
have its functionallity reduced...
