I'm guessing that the <WindowManager> that you use, "advertises" MC? I use the simple blackbox WM, and *I* set 'mc' in the menu; NOT blackbox, nor mc advertising itself. --- Your installation would have some default, choices in the menues. If you prefer others, your must change the selection.
