MC in console

Very strange. It sounds like you somehow broke your system, but I don't
really have on how to diagnose the problem.

    * Did you try 8-bit locales, such as plain "LC_ALL=C mc"? 

    * Did you try other locales, such as en_GB.UTF-8 or en_US.UTF-8? 

    * Did you actually make sure that the locale that you are using is 
      properly installed (locale -a)?
