Realy weird problem since I am using mc over 9 years now and even in
Debian GNU/Linux Sid/Unstable I have not this effect...

Maybe the build from FC9 is broken?  Do you have tried to ask on

    <fedora-list at redhat.com>

or contact someone of

    <fedora-devel-list at redhat.com>
