Probably caused by the fact that the built in slang doesn't recognize
that this is a unix. This is solved in CVS. You could apply this patch:
http://cvs.savannah.gnu.org/viewcvs/mc/slang/include/slang.h?root=mc&r1=1.11&r2=1.12
