Failed install on Solaris 8 (intel)

I would like to use the mc. Download mc-4.5.55 versio. 
I try to install with the following procees..
 # ./configure --prefix=/opt/gnu --without-gnome --with-charset
[ok]
# make
[ok]
# make install 
.
.
/bin/sh ../mkinstalldirs
Making install in doc-gnome
Making install in C
Making install in figs
/bin/sh ../../../mkinstalldirs
make: Fatal error: Don't know how to make target `install-data-local'
Current working directory /home/speter/tmp/mc-4.5.55/doc-gnome/C
*** Error code 1
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `install-am'
Current working directory /home/speter/tmp/mc-4.5.55/doc-gnome/C

So thereafter, I dont know what are missing, before I can run mc. :-o
