It's one click vs. one keyboard shortcut (2 keystrokes). You can
define shortcuts in ~/.mc/mc.keymap - for example I have these
definition in the file:

PanelSortOrderByName=ctrl-f3
PanelSortOrderByExt=ctrl-f4
PanelSortOrderBySize=ctrl-f6
PanelSortOrderByMTime=ctrl-f5
