Thanks. In that case there is no memory leak in one of the path. I
hadn't realized I screwed up the other path, making it impossible to fe
copy a to path/b.

That means the orig_mask indeed has a valid function and that part
doesn't need to be rewritten. So only the removal of the redundant ifs
before g_free and the insertion of the tilde_expand remain.
