Yes (for both questions).  It is important to fix fish.  This problem was
reported at least once.

I'm sorry that nobody replied.  VFS is a hard thing, and very few people
feel qualified to comment about it.

I'd like to encourge the subscribers to test the patches posted here and
comment in the mailing list.
